Arsenal are keen on signing Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin, according to Le 10 Sport.
Saint-Maximin only moved to Newcastle last summer for £16 million (Goal), but Arsenal are said to have already made contact with his entourage, as they look to strike a deal.
Mikel Arteta’s side are thought to be working on a limited budget, so bringing the attacker to the Emirates Stadium could prove difficult.
However, if Arsenal are able to sign Saint-Maximin he would be a hugely exciting addition to their squad.
The Frenchman has looked so dangerous during his first season in England, where he has provided four goals and seven assists in all competitions.
Considering Newcastle have generally played fairly defensively this term, those figures are very impressive, and could be increased further at Arsenal.
The 23-year-old could certainly offer the Gunners a direct threat on the counter, with his dribbling ability really coming to the fore this season.
Saint-Maximin’s arrival may also help to convince Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to stay on, as he is a huge fan.
“Newcastle are a solid side. I expect them to play quite deep so we will need to find a way of unlocking their back five. But also be careful not to give them too much space on the counter, especially if Allan Saint Maximin is playing,” Aubameyang said to Football London back in February.
“He is a threat. I know him very well as he was at the Saint-Etienne academy when I was at the club. He used to come and train with us in the first team. He has great skills and pace too.”
