Wolverhampton Wanderers star Adama Traore is not the ‘finished article’ and isn’t ready for a move to Liverpool this summer, Anfield legend Steve Nicol tells ESPNFC.
Anyone who thinks Sunday’s Premier League clash between the champions and a relegation-threatened Aston Villa was nothing more than a ‘dead rubber’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side should think again.
The Reds boss might have rested some of his star players over the weekend but, with Divock Origi and co struggling to prove his worth during a less-than-convincing 2-0 win, question marks have arisen once again about Liverpool’s strength in depth.
So, with Klopp and co determined to ensure that they do not slip from that proverbial perch any time soon, expect the 2019 European champions have been tipped to make a splash in the transfer market this summer.
The Mirror claims that Traore, on the back of an exceptional season at Molineux, could be on his way to Anfield.
According to Nicol, however, a move to Merseyside would be a classic case of ‘too much, too soon.’
“I could see him going [to Liverpool], not as a starter though,” Nicol told ESPN FC. “I don’t think he’s quite ready to start for one of the, if not the, top team in the world.
“But there’s no question when he gets the ball, you sit on the edge of your seat, you wonder what’s going to happen and if you’re playing against him, disaster. Do you close him? Do you stand off him?
“He’s certainly a talent.
“I don’t think he’s the finished article yet. He’s come a long way in the last couple of seasons. I think a little more time with Wolves would do him the world of good.”
The Sun (24 March, page 69) claims that Wolves will demand £70 million for their jet-heeled winger.
And with Klopp admitting publicly that Liverpool will not be paying big for the likes of Kai Havertz this summer, speaking to Sky, it is hard to imagine the Premier League winners splashing out a huge sum for Traore either.
