Season 1 of Tower of God may have only just concluded on Crunchyroll, but fans are already desperate for a second instalment of the original anime.
I think I speak for many anime fans when I say that Tower of God has been one of the stand-out original shows of the past few months.
A solid storyline and good character development, all wrapped up in a visually pleasing animation style have had me looking forward to each Wednesday morning since the very first episode premiered.
Season 1 may have only just concluded on Crunchyroll, but fans are already eager for a second instalment – asking if and when they can expect a ToG part 2.
Tower of God season 2: Renewal status
- At the time of writing, Crunchyroll has not officially renewed Tower of God for season 2, but it’s a safe bet that the show will return for a second instalment.
Tower of God is part of Crunchyroll’s first season of original shows, alongside God of High School and In/Spectre, and is incredibly popular with viewers. Whilst the official numbers have not been released, I would argue that the series has significantly increased the number of people paying for Premium Crunchyroll – including myself.
Moreover, the series is one of the few that was not affected by major production delays because of coronavirus. It is likely that Crunchyroll will want to capitalise on this momentum as well as keeping faith with Giory, the studio who kept the production on track during difficult times.
Then there is the reaction from fans over the past week. After the finale aired last Wednesday for Premium users, social media has been awash with positive reviews and hype for a second season. If you have time, watch the review from Penguinz0 (Cr1tikal).
Tower of God season 2: Release date
- With no official confirmation of renewal, there is no information on a possible release date for season 2.
Unfortunately, it seems like the platform is cautious to release any hints just yet. Speaking to Anime News Network earlier in the year, Director of Brand and Title Marketing Carter Hahnselle said: “Can’t share too much more beyond that right now, but again we’re so glad that fans all over the world have been enjoying the show.”
“The fan reaction to Tower of God has been incredible and inspiring. We’re so happy the audience loves Bam’s story as much as we do! You’ll have to check out the series yourself to see how far we follow Bam up the Tower in season one!” – Carter Hahnselle, Director of Brand and Title Marketing
If season 2 does get the greenlight from Crunchyroll and the animation studios, fans can expect a premiere sometime in April-2021. However, it is unclear at this point whether there will be knock-on delays felt from the coronavirus pandemic.
Tower of God season 2: Plot
- The plot for Tower of God season 2 is expected to continue from season 1 and introduce two new protagonists, Jue Viole Grace and Ja Wangnan.
We wouldn’t want to give away any of the major spoilers that we know from the manhwa series, but fans will be glad to hear that there is lots of awesome canon material left to adapt. If you would like to read the Webtoon yourself, you can find all volumes here.
Season 1 of Tower of God is available on Crunchyroll.
