David Luiz has been a major talking point, both on and off the pitch, since the Premier League returned. The Brazilian had a shocking game against Manchester City where he was responsible for two of their goals before getting himself sent off.
The two match-ban should have kept him away from the spotlight but he was the centre of all attention concerning Arsenal. Luiz was out of contract this summer and a number of people urged the Gunners to let him leave.
Mikel Arteta chose to extend his contract by another year despite many people being against it, and that got him a ton of backlash from supporters and pundits alike.
However, it does seem like Arsenal have some positive news coming their way and it might all be thanks to Luiz.
Le10 Sport have claimed today that Arsenal and Arteta are in talks with PSG’s Thiago Silva over a potential move this summer.
The experienced Brazilian is a free agent at the end of this season and the report claims that he wants to try his luck in the Premier League.
Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Silva but Arsenal, thanks to Luiz, could win the race for the eight-time league champion.
It is claimed that Luiz is acting as an intermediary in talks between Silva and Arteta. The Arsenal defender is reportedly pushing for the arrival of his compatriot, with whom he played at PSG as well.
Is Silva a good signing for Arsenal?
A player of Silva’s quality and experience could change Arsenal’s fortunes at the back next season. The Brazilian would also be a brilliant mentor to the likes of William Saliba and Rob Holding which can only be a positive for the Gunners.
Silva will turn 36 in September and his move this summer might just be his last one before he hangs up his boots. As a result, he will be looking for massive wages, which might prove to be Arsenal’s only stumbling block ahead of a potential move in the coming months.
