Nigerian influencer, Hushpuppi, was arrested in an apartment in Dubai on June 10th, during an FBI raid.

Hushpuppi, whose real name is Raymond Abbas, is 38 years old and has gathered over 2 million Instagram followers.

A video of Hushpuppi being arrested quickly went viral and fans have been desperate to know what happened in Dubai.

When was Hushpuppi arrested?

Hushpuppi was arrested on June 10th in Dubai. During the raid on the apartment, the FBI found £30 million in cash which was seized, along with luxury cars.

Twelve other people were also arrested, and the raid is said to have taken place two months after investigations into the gang began. Detectives used social media to find their locations.

Why was Hushpuppi arrested?

Brigadier Jamal al-Jalaf, from the Dubai Police CID, told The Times:

‘The suspects targeted victims overseas by creating fake websites for well known companies and banks in a bid to steal victims’ credit card information and then launder the stolen money.”

It is believed that investigators found email addresses of two million victims on several phones and computers seized during the raid.    

Hushpuppi is also accused of committing fraud in Europe, America and Nigeria, police said.
