The former Arsenal star believes that Holding is a better defender than his Gunners’ teammate David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi.
Parlour has spoken highly of the 24-year-old central defender’s talent, and has rued the injury problems that he has had.
Parlour told Football.London about Holding: “Certainly I’d put him in the pecking order ahead of [Luiz and Mustafi]. He’s a better defender than both of those players.”
The former Arsenal star added: “There’s definitely a proper talent there, I’ve said that all along. Before he got injured he was one of our best defenders. He had that injury and was out for a long period and that has been his problem, injuries at bad times.
“But now he has an opportunity. Sometimes it comes around again. I’m sure Mikel Arteta was impressed with him and his performance yesterday. He’s a young lad, he’s learning all the time. Hopefully he can get a regular spot now.”
According to WhoScored, Holding has made three starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League, and has played thrice in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.
During the 2018-19 campaign, the 24-year-old central defender played 10 Premier League matches and five times in the Europa League for the Gunners, according to WhoScored.
As reported by BBC Sport, Arsenal paid Bolton Wanderers £2 million in transfer fees when they signed Holding in the summer of 2016.
Holding has done well in the games that he has played in for Arsenal so far this season.
If the 24-year-old can stay fit, then he could be a very important player in Mikel Arteta’s team next season.
