Mauricio Pochettino must have thought that his days of influencing Tottenham Hotspur signings were well behind him.
But the Argentine might just have a say on whether Spurs sign one more player.
That’s because Record in Portugal has reported that the former Tottenham boss is in talks with Benfica about becoming their new head coach.
And who’s in the Benfica squad? You guessed it – Ruben Dias, who has been linked with a move to North London.
And ironically, if Pochettino takes the job in Lisbon then he might well have the power to decide where the centre-back winds up.
It must be noted that Tottenham won’t be paying £80 million for anyone for a long, long time, having taken a loan of £175 million off the Bank of England earlier this month.
But their reported interest was still being speculated about even after the global health crisis, which means that has seemingly being factored into it.
Will Dias end up at Tottenham? Who knows, but what we do know is that eight months on from his sacking in North London, Pochettino still might hold the key in determining who the club sign…..if he joins Benfica.
