According to L’Equipe, Nice are set to sign Lyon striker Amine Gouiri for around €6million (£5.5million) after Celtic seemingly backed away.
It’s claimed that Gouiri is preparing to leave Lyon and head to Nice, giving up hope of breaking through with his hometown club.
Nice want Gouiri to offer competition to Kasper Dolberg in attack, and the youngster should finally receive some first-team playing time.
The 20-year-old played just five first-team games this season, despite bagging three goals in four UEFA Youth League appearances.
Gouiri will hope to prove Lyon wrong, and possibly show Celtic that he really is worth the money after all, given that the Bhoys decided against signing him.
Last month, Le Progres reported that Celtic had made a move for Gouiri, but had decided that the asking price was too expensive.
Nice appear to be closing in for £5.5million – a fee that Celtic have only matched or exceeded on six signings in their history.
It’s no great surprise that Celtic don’t feel Gouiri would be value at that price when you factor in that spending history, but Nice are seemingly paying for his potential.
