According to The Sunday Mirror (28/06, p74), Celtic want to sign winger Jordon Ibe on a free transfer – but Crystal Palace are entering the race.

The Bhoys have been linked with Ibe for some time now, and he is now available on a free transfer having been released by Bournemouth.

Celtic are believed to be keen once again, but they now face a battle with Premier League side Palace as they seek a deal.

Roy Hodgson is claimed to be a big fan of Ibe, and would be keen to bring him to Selhurst Park on a free transfer to add depth to his squad.

That could be appealing to Ibe, who was born in South East London and could fancy a return to the capital whilst having the chance to stay in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old was signed by Bournemouth for £15million in 2016, with the Cherries feeling that he could be a star of the future.

However, he managed just five goals in 92 games, and played only four times this season, hence Bournemouth’s decision to release him at the end of his contract.

Celtic may fancy him as an alternative to Mohamed Elyounoussi, but Hodgson’s Palace may just ruin their attempts to land an absolute bargain.
