According to Footmercato, Rennes are eyeing a summer move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos as an alternative to Serhou Guirassy.
The French club are on the lookout for a new striker.
Guirassy seemingly topped their wish-list. However, the latest reports from France claim Amiens are holding out for over £16 million which Rennes feel is excessive.
With Champions League football arriving next season, Rennes will be confident of attracting top talent this summer and they’ve long had an interest in Morelos.
The Rangers striker has been a huge hit since arriving at Ibrox in 2017, netting over 70 goals in all competitions for the Scottish Premiership side.
Manager Steven Gerrard told reporters last November how he wouldn’t sell Morelos for £50 million.
But Footmercato now claim otherwise. The French editorial say the Gers will allow the Colombian striker to leave this summer for a much cheaper £13.5 million.
It’s highly unlikely Rangers would ever consider such a fee.
The 24-year-old has proven to be a top striker at Ibrox. With age on his side, Morelos still has years ahead of him and the Colombian will only get better.
Footmercato go on to say that Rennes have followed Morelos for two years alongside Saint Etienne and Marseille, but the French trio have Premier League competition.
After Rangers lost out to Celtic in the race for the title, Gerrard will be focusing on strengthening his squad this summer therefore selling Morelos on the cheap would make little sense.
