The Last Of Us Part 2 isn’t loved by everyone but it has become the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive of all time. With lots of people having already completed Naughty Dog’s divisive sequel, there are many fans and disgruntled gamers wondering whether there will be a Last Of Us 3 or even just DLC for Part 2.
Although not everything about the story is great as complained about by many gamers and fans of the original, there are still so many fantastic aspects about Naughty Dog’s sequel. The gameplay is ridiculously intense and terrifying (especially when confronted by Scars for the first time), and you can cover a bunch of real-life songs on Ellie’s acoustic guitar.
It’s a massive shame that the story is so divisive and not what everyone wanted after seven years of waiting. However, it’s even more of a shame that some people are reluctantly asking whether there will be a Last Of Us 3 or DLC for Part 2.
Will there be a Last Of Us 3?
Neil Druckmann has suggested that there will be a The Last Of Us Part 3.
Druckmann did discuss the prospect of a Last Of Us Part 3 happening before the release of Naughty Dog’s sequel, and it’s probable that it will happen following its incredible amount of sales.
Speaking to GQ back on June 9th, Druckmann said the following:
“As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing.
“So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.”
Although the reception to The Last Of Us Part 2 hasn’t been the greatest with review bombing and negative reviews from YouTubers, this doesn’t really affect whether a Part 3 will happen because all that matters to Sony is that the game sold exceedingly well.
However, it would be nice for Naughty Dog to start a new IP as a hypothetical Last Of Us Part 3 just isn’t exciting. The controversial Abby would likely be a key character once again and the lack of Joel would be hard to swallow.
Yet, while the prospect of bickering over another game isn’t exciting, there’s no denying that the sequel is just as open-ended as the original and that there’s plenty of story left for Naughty Dog to tell with both Ellie and Dina, as well as Abby and the Fireflies.
Are there DLC plans for The Last Of Us 2?
Neil Druckmann has said that there are no DLC plans for The Last Of Us Part 2.
Speaking to Kinda Funny, Neil Druckmann flat out said that there are no DLC plans for The Last Of Us Part 2 which will probably make disgruntled gamers happy.
With that being said, downloadable content starring Joel as the playable protagonist would have been massively welcomed.
DLC starring Jesse or Tommy would also have had the potential to be neat, as well as maybe even a story following Dina post The Last Of Us Part 2 ending.
The suggestion that there are no DLC plans for The Last Of Us Part 2 is surprising as the original game had Left Behind and Uncharted 4 had Lost Legacy.
It’s possible that Druckmann is fibbing to not prematurely tease something that will be announced sometime in the future, but it’s also possible that we could receive something similar to Lost Legacy which will be exclusive to PS5 and thus not marketed as DLC.
However, as of now, the official word is there are no plans for anything.
