Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on Marash Kumbulla with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that the Hellas Verona defender is joining Lazio for £25 million.

A dramatic 3-2 defeat against a typically ferocious Atalanta side on Monday night might have wrecked any hopes Lazio had of a first Serie A title since the year 2000 – but do not make the mistake in thinking this season’s Scudetto challenge is a flash in the pan.

Simone Inzaghi is expected to keep hold of his star performers this summer with Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic tipped to sign new contracts.

Star striker Ciro Immobile isn’t going anywhere either, despite all the column inches he has taken up in recent months.

And the impending arrival of Kumbulla, arguably the best young defender in Serie A, threatens to further strengthen a backline breached just 26 times in 27 games across 2019/20.

TMW claims that Lazio have agreed a £25 million with Hellas Verona for the Albanian’s signature.

Kumbulla, who has been likened by many to Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini, will sign a five-year deal worth just £25,000-a-week.

This will come as a disappointment to many a Premier League club, particularly Spurs and Everton sides who are under pressure to reinforce their paper-thin backlines in the off-season (FirenzeViola and Gazzetta).

FCInterNews in May, meanwhile, had mentioned Liverpool as a potential destination for Kumbulla with the ageing and erratic Dejan Lovren expected to be sold.
