It looks like Arsenal are set to lose another academy player imminently.

Alfie Matthews plastered his Instagram stories with cryptic hints about his future last month, repeatedly referencing a ‘big move’ on the horizon amid speculation about joining Newcastle United.

Matthews remains at Arsenal for now, but one player definitely leaving is Nathan Tormey.

Tormey, an Under-23 player for the Gunners, has revealed on Twitter that he has been offered a new three-year contract to stay in North London, but he’s rejecting it.

Here’s what the 20-year-old wrote:

Tormey, a winger, never made his senior debut for Arsenal but featured a lot for the Under-23 side last term, scoring four goals in 15 outings.

It’s a brave move for any young player to voluntarily flee the nest and it’ll be interesting to see where Tormey winds up.

He could’ve stuck around at Arsenal for the next three years without being anywhere near the senior set-up, so the fact that his priority is first-team football has to be respected.
