According to The Mirror, Leeds United have snubbed the chance to sign Daniel Ayala after they were offered the Middlesbrough defender.
It’s claimed that Ayala’s agent contacted Leeds about a potential deal, with Ayala set to become a free agent on July 1st.
Leeds director of football Victor Orta knows Ayala well from their time together at Middlesbrough, so the Spaniard’s agent likely wanted to engineer a reunion.
However, Orta has allegedly rejected the offer. Ayala allegedly isn’t even on Orta’s list of centre back targets for the summer.
Leeds are set to lose loanee Ben White back to Brighton and Hove Albion, so Ayala could have replaced him – but now seemingly needs to look elsewhere for a new club.
The 29-year-old has rejected a short-term deal at Middlesbrough, meaning he is just a week away from being free, and clubs will surely see him as a bargain.
Ayala is an experienced Championship campaigner, but with Leeds nearing promotion to the Premier League, they maybe feel they can do better.
The Daily Star recently noted that Ayala was expected to join the Whites no matter what division they were in, but that no longer appears to be the case after Orta’s decision.
