Crystal Palace are keen to sign South Korea international Lee Jae-Sung from German second tier side Holstein Kiel, according to Liga Zwei.
As it stands, there is only one South Korean footballer currently plying his trade in the Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur superstar Heung Min-Son.
But that number could be tripled by the time the 2020/21 season kicks off.
The so-called ‘new Virgil van Dijk’ may be on his way to England with 6ft 4ins centre-back Kim Min-Jae linked with Spurs, Everton and Watford.
And, according to reports from the continent, an attacking midfielder with an impressive goalscoring record has played his way onto the radar of a solid if unspectacular Crystal Palace side.
Liga Zwei claims that Lee Jae-Sung has played his final game for a promotion-chasing Holstein Kiel side due to injury.
The next time he steps foot on a pitch, he could be wearing the blue and red stripes of Palace.
With ten goals and eight assists from the centre of the park this season, Lee looks like an ideal addition to an Eagles midfield which isn’t exactly prolific – regardless of Luka Milovojevic’s stunning free-kick against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The report suggests that work permit problems could scupper Crystal Palace’s plans.
But, considering that Lee has almost 50 caps for South Korea, the three-time K-League champion should not be prevented from bringing his dynamic displays to England.
He is out of contact in 2021, meaning Crystal Palace could sign Lee on the cheap.
