It was the New Game Plus Expo 2020 yesterday and a lot of Atlus fans were excited. While some people had fooled themselves into thinking that Persona 6 was going to be announced, a lot of people had the supposedly realistic expectation of Atlus West simply announcing an American release date/window for Persona 5 Scramble. Alas, this didn’t happen and now people are asking whether the sequel is even coming to the west.
Persona 5 Scramble has been out in Japan for awhile and the Japanese reviews have been positive. Famitsu gave it a 36/40 which is slightly lower than Persona 5 and its Royal extension, but it’s still a great score for a game which is said to deliver a 45-hour campaign in which the Phantom Thieves travel the country.
While it’s great that the game is good for those who are able to enjoy it in Japan, it’s annoying that a western release is still up in the air.
Is Persona 5 Scramble coming to the west?
Atlus haven’t confirmed that Persona 5 Scramble is coming to the west.
However, although Atlus haven’t confirmed whether Persona 5 Scramble is coming to the west, it seems inevitable thanks to a localisation of the game mentioned in a Koei Tecmo financial report.
This financial report (via Siliconera) supposedly suggests that a localisation of the sequel will release sometime after June 2020.
But, seeing as Persona 5 Scramble isn’t even announced for the west as of yet, it seems likely that a western launch won’t happen until perhaps 2021.
Aside from a localisation being mentioned in a Koei Tecmo financial report, Atlus did release a survey which asked western audiences whether they would be interested in buying Persona 5 Scramble.
This doesn’t confirm that an American and European release will happen as Atlus have sent out countless surveys before enquiring about all sorts of hypotheticals such as even remakes of past games.
However, while you shouldn’t treat it as official, it would be surprising if Persona 5 Scramble wasn’t eventually released in the west.
Atlus disappoints at New Game Plus Expo 2020
Some Atlus fans at Twitter are mad at the studio for their New Game Plus Expo 2020 display.
Atlus mostly showed off Catherine Full Body on the Nintendo Switch at the New Game Plus Expo 2020, and this infuriated those who wanted to see Persona or even Shin Megami Tensei V.
It’s easy to understand why fans are so enraged, but the focus on Catherine wasn’t all that surprising as it’s launching on Switch next month.
