Boyd believes that strikers Taylor and Dykes would be good signings for Steven Gerrard’s side in the summer transfer window if Alfredo Morelos stays.
However, the former Rangers star does not think that either would be a suitable replacement for Morelos if the Colombia international striker leaves Ibrox this summer.
Meanwhile, former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has given his take on speculation linking Dykes with the Gers, and has also praised midfielder Ryan Jack.
TEAMtalk reported in May of interest in Charlton Athletic striker Taylor – who will become a free agent at the end of the month – from Rangers, while The Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that the Gers want to sign Dykes from Livingston this summer.
Boyd told The Sunday Post: “If Morelos stays, I understand Rangers being linked with strikers such as Lyle Taylor of Charlton and Livingston’s Lyndon Dykes.
“They have both caught the eye in recent times, and I’m sure they would be good additions. They have different qualities and both know the way to goal.
“But I wonder if either is good enough to be lined up as a direct replacement for Morelos, with an expectation of scoring in excess of 20 goals a season.
“And it would be unfair to pile too much pressure on either of their shoulders. Jermain Defoe will play a big part for the team in the coming campaign.”
Rae told The Daily Record: “Gerrard might be tempted to go a bit more direct and the addition of a more physical striker such as Lyndon Dykes may shake it up a little and provide a stronger presence at the back post.
“Rangers are quite heavy in the middle of the park, but Ryan Jack is their only enforcer type. He is such an improved player since Gerrard got hold of him and can now drive and probe, rather than going from side to side.”

Stats
According to WhoScored, Taylor has made 17 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for Charlton this season, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in the process.
Dykes scored nine goals in 25 Scottish Premiership matches for Livingston this campaign, according to WhoScored.
