Fans of the 2017 movie Call Me by Your Name are delighted to hear that there will be a sequel film, but when can we expect it to release?

The coming-of-age romantic comedy, Call Me by Your Name, was adored by viewers and critics alike for its depiction of young love.

However, many fans have been asking for a sequel film since the premiere in 2017.

Calls for a sequel only increased further when the original novel, that the movie was adapted from, had a follow-up book released in 2019.

Call Me by Your Name 2: Release date

Fans of Call Me by Your Name will be glad to hear that the 2017 movie is getting a sequel.

Many fans did expect this news after a sequel to the original book called Find Me was released in late-2019. Although, it’s always good to get an official announcement that production will begin once again.

Unfortunately, any information on the potential release date for the sequel film is scarce. Director Luca Guadagnino told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he had to cancel “a trip to the United States to meet a writer I love very much” because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hopefully, if production is able to begin by the end of the year, we could see the sequel film premiere as soon as mid-2021. However, considering that the pandemic is still affecting production in the US, Italy and France, early-2022 is a more realistic prediction.

Call Me by Your Name 2: Cast

Fans will be delighted to hear that many of the original cast members of the 2017 movie will be reprising their roles in the sequel.

“Of course, it was a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Esther Garrel and the other actors. Everyone will be in the new movie.” – Luca Guadagnino, Director.

The use of the word ‘everyone’ here does suggest that all of the main characters will feature in the sequel at some stage. However, it is likely that the storyline will not directly follow Elio and Oliver.

Call Me by Your Name 2: Plot

If the sequel movie strictly adapts the storyline of Find Me, then the film will be (roughly) split into three unique sections: Tempo, Cadenza and Capriccio.

Tempo is set ten years after the events of Call Me by Your Name and primarily focuses on Elios father, Samuel. En route to Rome with Elio, Samuel has a fast-growing, fast-acting affair with a twenty-something-year-old called Miranda.

Cadenza focuses on Elio and his new romantic interest, a lawyer called Michel who is almost twice his age. The two visit Michel’s childhood home in the beautiful French countryside, but the romance ends shortly after.

Finally, Capriccio focuses on Oliver, who is now a respected professor at a college in New Hampshire. Whilst he is married with children, he travels back to Italy and strikes up another romantic relationship with Elio.

Hopefully, we get some more information about the release date for the Call Me by Your Name sequel film within the next few months – so keep checking back in.
