The Last Of Us Part 2 is now available on PlayStation 4 and it’s unfortunately being review bombed on Metacritic by ‘anti-SJW’ goons. This is unfortunate for the hardworking and unknown Naughty Dog developers behind the game as well as Neil Druckmann, but it’s also unfortunate because it besmirches all legitimate criticism and complaints about Sony’s divisive sequel. One of the biggest complaints pertains to the query does Abby die, and the problematic answer results in the ending being terrible.

Neil Druckmann did warn fans that The Last Of Us Part 2 is not a game designed to be ‘fun’. He also assured fans that the ending hadn’t been leaked and he was true to his word in this respect. Problem is, a lot of the leaks about the game did turn out to be true and it’s the actualisation of these spoilers which has irritated fans so much.

Below you’ll discover whether Abby does die and why Naughty Dog’s ending is so bad.

**Massive spoilers for The Last Of Us Part 2 beyond this point**

Do you play as Abby in TLOU2?

Yes, you have to play as Abby in The Last Of Us Part 2.

You play as Abby at the beginning of The Last Of Us Part 2 as well after 12-hours into the campaign.

This is where Naughty Dog’s sequel dramatically transitions from an intense and capable masterpiece into a slog.

As you no doubt already know, Abby batters Joel to death with a golf club at the beginning of the game. There’s nothing wrong with this death scene as it’s befitting of the series’ bleak universe and it’s sort of similar to the Red Wedding from Game Of Thrones with Joel unknowingly walking into the lion’s den.

Problem is, Naughty Dog then tries to get you to relate with and like Joel’s murderer by stepping into her mighty shoes for many hours.

This is a complete failure as it’s impossible to care about her love triangle and her war with the terrifying Scars because we cannot accept her as anything more than Joel’s killer.

Not to mention she’s also affiliated with some of the worst people including this insufferable and cocky ladies man who spat on Joel’s corpse.

Unlike Joel who we walked in the shoes of throughout the whole of The Last Of Us, Abby is always unpleasant. Joel was no saint, but he was surrounded by likable characters such as Tess and Bill, and we saw him as a father figure.

Abby is mates with people we despise, she has no morally redeemable qualities to make up for her murders, and she’s got a face you just want to pummel as Ellie.

Does Abby die in The Last Of Us 2?

No, Abby does not die in The Last Of Us Part 2.

Abby does not die in The Last Of Us Part 2 because Ellie decides to show mercy thanks to an image of Joel with his guitar.

This image is then elaborated on in a scene before Joel’s death where Ellie says she’ll try to forgive him for saving her at the cost of a vaccine for mankind.

While this scene is sweet, it’s placement makes no sense as it just makes us more mad at Abby for robbing Joel and Ellie of their chance at reconciliation.

This makes Ellie’s decision to not kill Abby feel incredibly forced just to fit the narrative of revenge being wrong.

To make matters worse, Abby continuing to breathe makes us question why we even bothered to play the game. We did all these heinous acts to people and even dogs who were merely puppets, yet we don’t get the satisfaction or just reward of killing the actual perpetrator.

It’s easy to see what Naughty Dog intended and maybe the ending works on paper, but in-game it’s not satisfying and it makes everything we were put through a complete waste of time.

Not to mention it also makes us worried that Abby will be the unwanted star yet again for some DLC or maybe even The Last Of Us Part 3.
