Sunderland told Burnley striker Will Harris that he would be offered a contract at the Stadium of Light come the end of the season but, according to The Echo, the deal is now in doubt.
Before the entire world was flipped on it’s head in March, the Black Cats were hard at work looking to enhance their underperforming academy with some of the most exciting young talents in British football.
A defender turned striker, Harris spent time on trial with Sunderland at the start of 2020 after scoring nine times in 12 games during a loan spell at Warrington Town.
And, according to the Echo, this instinctive frontman was told that he would be handed the chance to return to Wearside on a permanent basis when his contract at Burnley expires in July.
But, with just two weeks remaining on his deal, it remains to be seen whether the offer is still on the table.

As the Echo points out, negotiations to sign Harris on a full-time contract have been placed on the backburner. Then again, the soon-to-be free-agent will not exactly take much of a dent out of Sunderland’s summer budget.
Harris is expected to hone his talents in Elliot Dickman’s U23 squad initially if he does sign, though a first-team place might be within his grasp if he makes an impressive start to life in the north East.
After all, the lack of prolific goalscorers in Phil Parkinson’s squad is perhaps the main reason why they will play no part in the League One play-offs.
