Noel Whelan does not believe that Leeds United fans will be seeing Ryan Edmondson in the senior squad anytime soon.
The 19-year-old striker made his first-team debut for the Whites a little over two years ago, when Paul Heckingbottom was in charge.
But he’s been a very rarely-seen figure since Marcelo Bielsa took the reins at Elland Road.
Edmondson’s last senior outing for Leeds came back in September of 2018.
With the way United have been struggling for goalscoring options at times this season, some fans of the West Yorkshire club have often wondered why Bielsa hasn’t promoted the Thorp Arch hitman to compete with Patrick Bamford.
These days, Bielsa is permitted to name a 20-man squad and is allowed to use five substitutes but, despite Jean-Kevin Augustin being injured for this afternoon’s 2-0 defeat at Cardiff City, there was still no sign of Edmondson.
And former Leeds hitman Whelan has claimed that’s a damning indictment for how much – or how little – the veteran Argentine rates the teenage marksman right now.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: “You’ve got an opportunity to put nine players on your bench, use five of them. If he’s not on there now, you ain’t going to see him.
“Simple as that. He’s just not in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.”
