The beloved sitcom has been debated by conspiracy theorists lately but does The Simpsons have predictions for 2021?
There are so many excellent animated shows out there, from Rick and Morty to Futurama. However, none are quite so iconic and widely adored as The Simpsons.
First arriving on screens back in 1989, Matt Groening’s crowning achievement has given us a wealth of characters to cherish; arguably some of the very best in TV history.
It’s been a pleasure to flock to Springfield for decades and with such a legacy, it’s perhaps unsurprising that time has caught up with them. By this, we mean some of the things they included in episodes have essentially happened in real life.
From the horsemeat scandal to Donald Trump’s presidency, there are a few things that The Simpsons has gotten right.
On the other hand, there have been some sharing fan-made images to reinforce theories, with the latest being an image which supposedly predicted the death of George Floyd; it didn’t.
Nevertheless, let’s look ahead to 2021…
Are there any The Simpsons predictions for 2021?
- No, there aren’t any The Simpsons predictions for 2021 in particular.
However, a number of episodes have made suggestions for the future in general. This is often the case, with The Simpsons dropping in a detail and it later appearing to hold weight in our own world.
So, let’s take a moment to highlight some of them!
The Simpsons: More predictions on the way?
There are a few things that were included in The Simpsons that could slip into our own reality at some point.
The most noteworthy is arguably the prediction that Ivanka Trump will run for president in 2028.
In a 2016 episode, The Wrap notes that Homer wore an “Ivanka 2028” campaign button and it’s certainly a possibility down the line. Who knows, perhaps this one could become true after all!
Moving back to an earlier 2001 episode – ‘New Kids on the Blecch’ – we see Bart and his friends start a boyband but it turns out that the lyrics are subliminal to brainwash kids into joining the navy. There are many who believe mind control through music is a real threat, but if so, it’s yet to be proven.
Other predictions The Simpsons have made which we’re yet to see are virtual reality food, hologram mail and a glass dome in response to environmental disaster, as seen in The Simpsons Movie.
Bill Oakley weighs in
Comic Book notes that Bill Oakley, one of the show’s writers, has his own thoughts on whether The Simpsons has predicted anything accurately:
“There are very few cases where The Simpsons predicted something. It’s mainly just coincidence because the episodes are so old that history repeats itself. Most of these episodes are based on things that happened in the 60s, 70s or 80s that we knew about.”
Lisa Simpson voice actress Yardley Smith also offered her take: “If you’ve been on for three decades, probably you’re going to hit it once in a while.”
