The happiest Arsenal player to see Unai Emery leave and Mikel Arteta arrive was probably Mesut Ozil. The German had multiple clashes with the former Arsenal boss and often failed to make the squad as a result.
Under Arteta, Ozil was a regular and his performances were fairly decent up until football stopped about 100 days ago.
The former Real Madrid man was expected to start in Arsenal’s first game back against Manchester City but Arteta, surprisingly, decided to leave him out of the entire squad.
Nobody saw that coming before the team news was announced. Arteta’s shock decision brought about a ton of speculation over Ozil’s future at Arsenal beyond the end of this season.
Arteta claimed that he left Ozil out due to tactical reasons but it is unlikely that it was the only reason. Clubs are now allowed nine players on the bench and it is very hard to believe that there wasn’t a spot available for the German just for ‘tactical reasons’.
Ozil took to Twitter for the first time since facing the axe where he seemed to say that he was with Arsenal ‘no matter what’.
This isn’t the first time Ozil has taken to Twitter after getting dropped
It is very strange for the German to put out a cryptic message like this less than 24 hours after the defeat. However, this is not the first time Ozil has done this.
The German had a few cryptic messages earlier this season when Emery decided against using him in the squad.
Their relationship strained as a result but Arteta too choosing to go down the same path as Emery is quite strange considering how highly he spoke about the German when he first took over to the club.
Most Arsenal fans are still very much behind Ozil. Here’s how a few Gunners supporters reacted to his tweet.
