The Premier League returns tonight with two mouth-watering fixtures in prospect but will Aston Villa v Sheffield United be free to watch?

The sporting calendar has been well and truly decimated in 2020 thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Countless events have either faced postponement or full-blown cancellation.

Thankfully for football fans, the Premier League is gearing up for its highly anticipated return and on June 17th, the first of 92 matches get underway.

It has been widely reported that a number of those matches would be broadcast for free but the question on fans’ minds ahead of the first fixture back is whether or not Aston Villa v Sheffield United will be free to watch?

Premier League returns: Aston Villa v Sheffield United

It has been almost 100 days since the Premier League shut down on March 13th and now, at long last, the season has been given the go-ahead to resume.

The first fixture back is a tantalising clash between relegation-threatened Aston Villa and Europa League hopefuls, Sheffield United.

Prior to the shutdown, Aston Villa were on a run of five straight defeats, including a loss in the League Cup final and will hope to arrest their slide against Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United who won four of their last five games before the shutdown in March.

How to watch: Will Aston Villa v Sheffield United be free?

Sadly, Aston Villa v Sheffield United is not one of the 33 matches that will be shown for free during the remainder of the Premier Leauge season.

The match is due to air on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League meaning that fans will either need a Sky Sports subscription through TV providers such as Virgin or Sky themselves.

Alternatively, Sky Sports passes are available from Now TV which gives fans access to Sky’s sports channel for various periods of time.
