Madison Beer seems to be ‘cancelled’ by her fans all the time at the moment, so what has she done wrong this week?
Having a big following online comes with a lot of responsbility. On social media, fans are really quick to judge what you say – one wrong move and you could be ‘cancelled’ forever.
We’ve already had Doja Cat being ‘cancelled’ this year, and now it seems like next it could be Madison Beer.
But what exactly has she done?
Who is Madison Beer?
Madison is an American singer signed to Epic Records.
She rose to fame when Justin Bieber tweeted a link to one of her covers back in 2012.
The 21-year-old from Long Island is also a social media sensation, with almost 20 million followers on Instagram and 11 million on TikTok.
Why is Madison Beer ‘cancelled’?
The singer always seems to be under fire for something, and people on Twitter are ‘cancelling’ Madison yet again – but why?
Madison said that she likes the book Lolita, a 1955 novel written by Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov.
Lolita is known for its controversial plot, following the story of a French professor who becomes obsessed with a twelve year old girl.
Fans of Madison are ‘cancelling’ her as they believe that it is inappropriate for her to romanticise this book about abusive relationships.
Madison apologised on Twitter
On her Twitter account, Madison apologised to her fans. She said:
“I love u guys & i’m sorry. i misspoke and would never condone inappropriate relationships of any kind. i’m sincerely sorry for it seeming like i do. let me make it clear – i do not. have a good night.”
A Twitter user then sent Madison a tweet in which they argued that she needs to be careful what she says and think longer before she speaks, especially as she has such a large platform.
She then replied to the tweet, saying: “Yes and i need to b mindful of other people’s experiences and i apologize sincerely. i’d never want to hurt anyone.”
