Ferguson – who is wanted at Rangers by Gers manager Steven Gerrard, according to The Scottish Sun – has outlined how Christie has made himself an important player for Celtic after initially struggling to make an impact.
The 25-year-old midfielder moved to the Hoops in 2015, and after initially struggling at Celtic Park, the Scotland international joined Aberdeen on loan in 2017.
The midfielder got back to his best during his 18-month loan spell at Aberdeen, and he is now an important figure in manager Neil Lennon’s team.
According to WhoScored, Christie scored 11 goals in 24 Scottish Premiership games, and scored three goals and provided one assist in six Europa League matches for Celtic this season.
Ferguson told BBC Sport: “When you look at how Christie’s career went, when he came up to Aberdeen he took it to another level.
”The club [Aberdeen] and the staff helped him do that. He obviously went back to Celtic and took it up another notch.
“It’s a bit of inspiration when you look at what he did. I’m looking to emulate that in my career.”
Rangers transfer this summer?
Ferguson also told BBC Sport that he does not want to move to a bigger club and be a squad player.
This means that Rangers will have to convince the 20-year-old midfielder that he will play a big role in Gerrard’s team next season and beyond.
The 20-year-old is a regular for Aberdeen, and while Rangers are a bigger club, he needs to play first-team football week in week out to progress and develop.
