Britain’s biggest YouTube star DanTDM earns more subscribers in a single week than the entire population of his current hometown.
When it comes to the homes and hometowns of famous YouTubers, most of us will naturally think of huge mansions in the Hollywood hills.
However, for DanTDM, Britain’s most popular YouTuber, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
In fact, the online superstar earns on average more subscribers in a single week than there are people in his current East Midlands hometown.
Who is DanTDM?
- Daniel Middleton, better known as DanTDM (previously TheDiamondMinecart), is a British YouTuber, professional gamer, author and actor.
Dan initially started his career on YouTube in 2009 by playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive. However, it was after he started the channel ‘TheDiamondMinecart’ in 2012 that he experienced breath-taking levels of success.
Since then, Dan has amassed over 23 million subscribers and nearly 17 billion views on his channel – making him the UK’s biggest YouTube star.
Whilst the DanTDM community was built through Minecraft, Dan has now branched away from the title into other games and reaction-style videos that regularly receive over two million views.
In addition to his YouTube career, Dan has also produced a graphic novel Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal (2016) and has voiced characters in Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) and Skylanders Academy (2016).
Where does DanTDM live?
- DanTDM lives in the market town of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, England.
Whilst Dan was born in Aldershot, he moved to Wellingborough to study at Weavers School (2003 – 2008) and continued into the college for two years before attending the nearby University of Nottingham.
Wellingborough sits 11 miles (18Km) outside Northampton on the River Nene and houses approximately 50,000 people – Dan earns around 70,000 subscribers per week by comparison.
The town was established by the Anglo-Saxons and whilst we do not know how old it is, the oldest existing building ‘All Hallows Church’ dates back to 1160AD. Historically, Wellingborough was also the site of a decisive battle in the English Civil War in 1645 known as the Battle of Naseby.
Who else lives in Wellingborough?
Aside from DanTDM, well-known ‘Wellingburians’ include the lead singer of Radiohead Thom Yorke and media personality, comedian and writer Sir David Frost OBE.
The town is also home to former Liverpool footballer Bill Perkins, former Tottenham Hotspur footballer Fanny Walden, former England Rugby captain Bob Taylor and the lead singer from Bauhaus Peter Murphy.
