According to The Mirror (14/06, p72), Newcastle United are interested in raiding Chelsea for left back Marcos Alonso this summer.
Newcastle’s Saudi-led takeover still hasn’t gone through, and fans are left anxiously waiting to hear whether the £300million deal will be completed.
Still, it’s claimed that the consortium attempting to buy Newcastle are already looking at signings. This new rumour now states that those involved have contacted Chelsea to make them aware of interest in Alonso.
The 29-year-old left back has three years left on his deal. However, Chelsea want to sign Ben Chilwell, so Alonso’s role at Stamford Bridge is now in doubt.
Alonso has only started nine Premier League games this season, but has a remarkable record of four goals and two assists in 11 appearances. The Spaniard is still a major threat going forward, even if Frank Lampard now wants Chilwell.
Newcastle have Danny Rose on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, but could now target Alonso to replace him at the end of the season.

A move may not be too popular with some Newcastle fans. He spent the end of the 2014 season on loan at Sunderland, and told The Chronicle earlier this year that the Black Cats are ‘special’ to him.
Alonso was booed by Newcastle fans earlier this season, due to his Sunderland ties. That prompted the Spaniard to mock them on Twitter after he scored the winning goal against the Magpies.
Some Newcastle fans may find that situation difficult to overlook, but it’s hard to imagine the Saudi-led consortium are already plotting signings without a manager or director of football in place. Alonso may just be a name to keep an eye on for now, rather than considered as a top target.
