According to Bleacher Report, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is a big fan of West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice ahead of a possible bid for him.
It’s claimed that Rice could be a legitimate target for Chelsea if they lose either Jorginho or N’Golo Kante this summer, with a defensive midfielder needed.
Lampard allegedly loves three things about Rice; his personality, his drive and his commitment. Other options are being explored, but Rice appears to be on Lampard’s wish list.
The 21-year-old would be making the same move Lampard controversially made in way back in 2001. Rice has though already had one spell at Chelsea, spending eight years with the club before leaving in 2014.
One interesting factor surrounds Tiemoue Bakayoko. Le10 Sport recently reported last month that West Ham are particularly interested in Chelsea midfielder Bakayoko.
The 25-year-old has spent the last two years out on loan at AC Milan and Monaco, having failed to impress for Chelsea since joining from the latter in 2017.
With the global pandemic hitting club budgets, Chelsea may be tempted to throw Bakayoko into a deal for Rice, giving West Ham a potential replacement in holding midfield.
West Ham fans would much rather have Rice, but with Lampard keen to sign the youngster, it may be worth testing the water with a part-exchange bid.
