On New Years Eve we all thought 2020 was going to be great – but it had other plans.

This year has been eventful to say the least. First there were the Australian bushfires, then Britain left the European Union. There was the sudden death of basketball star Kobe Bryant, and of course Covid-19. And most recently the Black Lives Matter protests have swept through the globe.

The abrupt start to the year makes you wonder what the rest of 2020 has in store for us. Surely it can’t get any worse, right?

But you can never be too careful, and one person has decided to hide from the rest of 2020 – The State of Liberty.

Yes, Lady Liberty has got down from her base and is hiding behind, escaping the hardship that the remaining half of 2020 may bring.

Just kidding, it’s only a meme. But I think we should all take a leaf out of her book. She’s got the right idea!

Someone has edited the image so it appears like Lady Liberty is gone from her stand.

Then, you can see her peering round from the behind the rock.

What does the Statue of Liberty represent?

The Statue of Liberty is a monument that has come to symbolise the United States as a whole.

It is placed on Ellis Island, New York City and specifically commemorates the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.

Officially named Liberty Enlightening the World, the statue represents the freedom we have in life.

Given to the United States by the people of France in 1886, it also represents the friendship between the two countries established during the American Revolution.

Why is the Statue of Liberty hiding in this meme?

In the popular meme, Lady Liberty is hiding from everything that is happening in America in 2020.

Ultimately, the photo can be viewed as a political message, as the Statue of Liberty is hiding from American politics and rule under Donald Trump.

She is a symbol of freedom, which is ironic as in today’s society America certainly isn’t a place where everybody has a life of liberty.

Amid the Black Lives Matter movement, she is hiding from the way many black Americans are being treated and the racism that still exists in today’s society.
