According to a report from L’Equipe, OGC Nice are working on a deal to sign Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin this summer.
The 30-year-old, signed for £24 million (BBC) from Manchester United, has just over a year left on his contract.
Schneiderlin has played 18 times for the Toffees this season, most of those coming before Carlo Ancelotti took charge.
Under the Italian, the former Southampton man has started just thrice in the league, and it is likely that he will be allowed to move on this summer.
The report claims that Nice have identified Schneiderlin to bolster their midfield and are working on a deal to sign him.
Nice-Matin have gone a step beyond by claiming that a deal is almost guaranteed to happen. The report says that Everton and the French outfit are yet to agree on a transfer fee but it is only a matter of time.
Everton will not get anywhere near what they paid for him a few years ago. With Schneiderlin approaching 31, and with his contract expiring next summer, his selling fee will likely be very low but that shouldn’t really matter.
The Toffees will free up space on their wage bill which will help them secure their other targets.
Napoli’s Allan has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside. (Tutto Mercato Web) His addition to Ancelotti’s squad will eliminate any need for Schneiderlin which makes selling him a no-brainer.
A move away this summer is the best outcome for all parties involved and if the report is anything to go by, it is likely to happen in the very near future.
