Arsenal have held talks with the agent of Gent striker Jonathan David while Het Laaste Nieuws reports that Everton are also in the mix.
There is a reason why this goalscoring sensation is nicknamed ‘the Iceman’ – and not just because he hails from chilly Canada.
At the age of just 20, David is already one of the most ruthless operators in European football.
The Brooklyn-born forward produced 23 goals and 10 assists in 2019/20 and, before you rush to claim that even your nan could put chances away in the Jupiler League, it’s worth mentioning that David also ran Roma ragged in the Europa League before the season was paused.
It looks for all the world, then, that David has played his final game in Gent colours.
Almost every club in the Premier League have been linked at one point or another but, according to HLN, it is Arsenal who are at the front of the queue as it stands.
The Gunners have held talks with David’s agent, Nick Mavropanos, though Gent are yet to receive a bid in the region of their £23 million asking price. Everton are interested too, though they are yet to move beyond the ‘interest’ stage into something more palpable.
Goal recently suggested that Arsenal could entrust this rising star to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the most proven of top-class strikers, at the Emirates next season.
Quite the show of faith in a player with just two seasons of first-team football under his belt.
