Newcastle United will face big changes should their proposed takeover go through – and a technical director looks to be a top priority.

The Daily Mail claim that a director of football figure is a top priority should the Saudi-led consortium complete their £300million takeover of the Magpies.

Fortuna Dusseldorf’s Lutz Pfannenstiel is one name in the mix. However, the main name being linked is Antero Henrique, with this report naming him again.

RMC Sport claimed just days ago that Henrique has already been contacted by Newcastle’s potential owners. He is out of the game having left Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

He has a strong reputation from his time at Porto, but he actually sold a top Newcastle target two years ago – and he’s now worth much, much more.

Henrique allowed Celtic to sign striker Odsonne Edouard in 2018. They paid just £9million to sign Edouard from PSG, and he has gone on to become one of the most promising strikers in Europe.

His record this season has been simply ridiculous; the 22-year-old has smashed 27 goals and 19 assists in all competition for Celtic, whilst smashing 11 goals in just six France Under-21 caps.

Having barely been given a chance at PSG, and then being sold on for a small fee, Edouard is now a wanted man. The Daily Star claim that, if Steve Bruce keeps his job post-takeover, Edouard is his top target.

Celtic allegedly value Edouard a £30million; more than three times the value Henrique sold him for two years ago. If Henrique lands the Newcastle job, he may well be tasked with bringing Edouard to St James’ Park.

He certainly knows plenty about Edouard from his time at PSG; Henrique may simply not fancy him, hence selling him, or felt he needed to go out and settle elsewhere to really develop.

Either way, the interest in Edouard is an interesting sub-plot to the Henrique interest. Much will depend on Bruce’s job too, but this is a situation to keep an eye on.
