Valencia winger Ferran Torres looks set for a huge future – and that could see him earn a huge move at the end of the season.
Torres, 20, has come up through the Valencia ranks having joined way back in 2006. Now a first-team player with the La Liga side, Torres is turning heads.
With six goals and seven assists this season, Torres has starred for Valencia. Primarily a right winger, the Spaniard can also play on the left, and has attracted interest.
The Mirror reported that back in March that Liverpool wanted to sign Torres. They seemingly viewed him as a versatile attacker who could play all the way across Jurgen Klopp’s front line.
Torres is out of contract in 2021, meaning he could move on next summer. However, clubs seemingly want him this summer too, with Real Madrid and Barcelona named in that report.
Now, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has commented on the situation. Speaking to SPORT, Balague noted that Torres has added four kilos of muscle during lockdown, and is now ready to show he’s up there with Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.
Balague added that Torres is considering leaving Valencia, with the Spanish side needing money. He also named a number of clubs who want Torres, but claims Liverpool aren’t one of them.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are all named, with the fee believed to be around £50million rather than his €100million release clause.
“I want to talk to you about Ferran Torres, who I think is going to be the superstar of the next 11 games, although he hasn’t trained for a week because he had a cut in his knee for an accident he had at home,” said Balague. “He is in top physical form, he has put four kilos on, of muscle, and he is more than ready to show that he belongs in the same conversation at Haaland or Jadon Sancho.”
“His contract finishes at the end of next season, the end of the 2021 season. Something is happening with his future, because he feels that he has to be somewhere where he can show that he is the best. At Valencia, it is difficult for that to happen; they’re one of the teams that shoots on goal less often, they don’t create a lot. Obviously, it does feel like Ferran Torres belongs at the next level. I believe he is thinking ‘what would happen if I leave?’. €100million is his buyout clause, and I do believe that Valencia are also looking out there for who would have him this summer, because of course next summer, he can go for free. They need money coming in, so who wants Ferran Torres? Everybody.”
“Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City… not Liverpool, funnily enough. Borussia Dortmund of course, and it’s a little bit of a domino effect. If Jadon Sancho goes to Manchester United, and they are trying, Borussia Dortmund will invest some of that money to get Ferran Torres this summer. Nothing has been confirmed, I believe even the likes of Juventus want him as well. It would be interesting to be close to somebody that Ferran really admires in Cristiano Ronaldo. So, all in all, we are talking about what could be one of the big transfers of the summer. We have already seen money spent with Icardi, with Timo Werner… it would be that kind of fee as well, around £50million I reckon, if not more. He only has one year left on his contract, and Valencia are open to offers,” he added.
