The speculation linking Lyndon Dykes with a move to Rangers has come as ‘no surprise’ to Livingston team-mate Jon Guthrie, though the centre-back has not given up hope of sharing a dressing room with the giant striker next season, speaking to the Scottish Sun.

There are not many players in Scotland who have made Christopher Jullien look like a fish out of water this season.

But Dykes, an old-school battering ram of a number nine, left Celtic’s £7 million Frenchman nursing a battered body and a bruised ego as Livi beat the Champions for the first time in their history last autumn.

The Australian-born frontman certainly thrives on the big occasion.

And after giving Rangers the runaround too, at least one Old Firm giant is interested in rewarding Dykes with a life-changing move during the summer transfer window.

“Lyndon had a great season so it’s no surprise for him to be linked with clubs. There’s not much we can do about that. He deserves that,” admits Guthrie.

“But the club’s shown they can cope. People were worrying about us losing players last season but we recruited well.

“Obviously we want to keep as many of our better players as we can. But, if not, then like any club we’ve got to find replacements.”

Ranges were heavily linked with Dykes in the final few hours of the January transfer window, before they opted instead to bring in Florian Kamberi on loan from Hearts.

The Swiss striker has now departed Ibrox and there is room for rangy, aggressive frontman in Gerrard’s squad. What’s more, the former Liverpool captain has already made his admiration for Dykes very clear.

“Lyndon Dykes is a good player who has given us problems. He is good in the air, good on the floor and physical,” Gerrard told the Scottish Sun earlier this season.
