Arena Napoli have claimed that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has spoken to Andrey Arshavin to gather details about Zenit St. Petersburg’s Sardar Azmoun.

The former Arsenal man is currently on Zenit’s transfer committee and he will have a say if Azmoun was to leave the Russian giants this summer.

Arsenal will have to look for a replacement to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if the former Dortmund man decides to leave at the end of this season.

Aubameyang will soon enter the final year of his contract and there is a good chance that the Gunners will sell him to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

A number of strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates but Arsenal will have to be smart in their moves due to the difficult financial climate across Europe.

Azmoun will relatively be cheaper than the other big names that Arsenal have been linked with and if the report is to be believed, Arteta seems to be using his past relationship with Arshavin to push for a deal.

Arshavin, during his time at the club, was a fan favourite. The Russian played over 100 games for Arsenal before eventually returning to his boyhood club on a free transfer.

Arteta and Arshavin weren’t together for a long time but it seems that the two of them have struck a relationship that could come to use after eight long years.

Arsenal fans were delighted with the news of Arteta and Arshavin working on a deal. Here’s how a few of them reacted on Twitter.
