Alex Rider has only just started on his TV journey and already he is jetting off to beautiful locations, but where was the show filmed?

The Alex Rider book series written by Anthony Horowitz either featured on many of our shelves growing up, or in our English classes.

Now, there a brand-new show all about our favourite teenage spy, with season 1 being the story arc of book two’ Point Blanc’.

The show has certainly delighted the original author Anthony Horowitz, who said: “I was thrilled to hear that Prime Video will introduce the Alex Rider TV series to fans.”

In season 1 of Alex Rider, he travels to Point Blanc in the French Alps, but it turns out that the show faked the snowy location from the start!

Faking the French Alps!

Let’s be honest, none of us would have realised that the mountain landscapes from the Alex Rider TV series are not the real Alps – unless you’re an avid geographer, mountain climber or skier.

The scenes set in Point Blanc and surrounding mountain range in Alex Rider are actually filmed in Romania.

The filming took place around the town of Sinaia in Prahova County, Romania, and is a popular destination for snowboarders and skiers located just east of the Becegi Mountains.

The area around Sinaia sits approximately 767 – 860m (2,516 – 2,822ft) above sea level, with the local ski resort featuring 16 slopes and 4 mountain-bike trails that tourists can enjoy. Sinaia town itself also has a fascinating history, being built in 1695 and hosting King Carol I of Romania’s summer residence in the 19th century.

Interestingly, the 2018 gothic horror film The Nun was also filmed in the nearby Romanian mountains.

Whilst we never get a definitive location for Point Blanc in Alex Rider, always said to be in the French Alps, we know that the beautiful Romanian mountains would have otherwise tricked us all.

Inner-city London and Home Counties

We see Alex Rider in a host of locations across London and the Home Counties during season 1, but we only know one definitive filming location.

According to the production’s location listings on IMDB, Coke Street in London, England, was a major filming location.

Coke Street can be found in Whitechapel, London, just off Adler Street and the A13.

There have been other filming locations for the 2020 Alex Rider series. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information at the moment as to where these locations were – notably the school.

Season 1 of Alex Rider is available to watch right now on Amazon Prime Video.
