The A Word has won praise in a number of areas but particularly for its filming locations but just where is The Fellside restaurant and is the cafe real?
Since it first arrived on our screens in 2016, The A Word has been an immensely popular series since, highlighting the struggles of a young boy with autism.
While the series has obviously won praise for its handling of Joe Hughes’ storylines, the incredibly scenic filming locations for The A Word have proven to be a real hit as well.
The A Word takes viewers to the urban landscapes of Manchester while also exploring the awe-inspiring vistas of the Lake District.
It is here where The A Word spends most of its time and is also where Paul Hughes (Lee Ingleby) has set up The Fellside gastropub but is the location a real place and if so, where is it?
The A Word series 3 on the BBC
Series 3 of The A Word began airing on BBC One on May 6th, 2020 after a gap of three years since series 2 hit our screens.
The six-episode series has been airing weekly since while all episodes in series 3 are available on BBC iPlayer.
Series 3 continues the music-filled adventures of Joe Hughes, who was diagnosed with autism at a young age, as well as the various comings and goings of his extended family.
One of the key areas of the series has been The Fellside gastropub, which was converted from a stone barn by Paul but just what do we know about this location?
Is The Fellside real a real gastropub?
- Sadly, The Fellside is not a real gastropub.
The location was converted from a stone barn to be made up like a beautifully scenic restaurant and pub but when the BBC filming crew leaves, the barn once again becomes a barn.
The Fellside has been a real labour of love for the character of Paul but sadly the location is just fictional.
Where is The Fellside’s filming location?
You technically can visit The Fellside’s location, although you’ll just be greeted by an empty barn.
The location used for the desirable Fellside is a barn on the land that makes up High Bridge End Farm near Thirlmere in the Lake District.
The barn is located just off the A591 going from Thirlmere to Keswick and is a few hundred metres northwest of the High Bridge End Camping and Caravan site.
In the meantime, The A Word continues on Tuesday evenings on BBC One until the final episode airs on June 9th while the final few episodes are already available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
