Tutto Juve claimed about a month ago that Newcastle were interested in signing Juventus’ Douglas Costa this summer.

The Brazilian has had a torrid couple of seasons due to injury which has forced Juventus to put him on their transfer list.

Newcastle, soon to be under new, ambitious owners, are expected to have a lot of money to spend this summer and Costa is reportedly on their wish list.

TMW have now claimed that the former Bayern Munich man will be available for just £21.5 million, almost £14 million less than what they paid for him two years ago. (BBC)

Costa, a two-time league champion with Juventus, would certainly be a big-name signing for Newcastle, and £21.5 million shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the Magpies once their take over is complete.

However, the Brazilian has played a combined total of 31 games in the last two seasons, which makes him a huge risk for any club that signs him this summer.

Costa’s goals and assists tally is underwhelming as well. The 29-year-old has scored three goals and has assisted five more in the last two seasons which is a terrible record for any attacker.

Newcastle should stay away from Costa

Newcastle will definitely look to make a huge statement this summer and Costa would certainly be one.

However, he is a player whose performances over the last two seasons have been poor while his injury record has been even worse.

The Magpies shouldn’t be tempted with Costa’s £21.5 million price tag this summer. They can find multiple players who have had better campaigns recently, who would give their money more value than the Brazilian would in the future.
