The Last Of Us Part 2 comes out in just a few weeks meaning Sony loyalists will soon be able to play their most anticipated game of 2020. There’s been a lot of bumps in the lead-up to its release whether they be spoilers or the real world falling apart, but the game is finally coming out soon. Lots of people have lately been asking about the secret epilogue for The Last Of Us that was only seen by a few attendees in-person, and here you’ll find an explanation of what it was and whether it’s in Part 2.
Although there has been tons of controversy and leaks surrounding the Naughty Dog sequel, there’s no denying that everything official looks superb. Naughty Dog showed off some new gameplay for last week’s State Of Play, and everything shown appeared incredibly polished and impressive despite most people’s takeaway being the cameo of a PS Vita.
While the gameplay appears immaculate, the real draw for The Last Of Us Part 2 is undoubtedly its story and characters. And, with the second part’s release on the horizon, below you’ll discover everything that has been shared about the original story’s secret epilogue.
**Potential minor spoilers for The Last Of Us Part 2 beyond this point**
What is The Last Of Us’ secret epilogue?
The secret epilogue for The Last Of Us is a short scene that was acted out by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in-person.
It was a part of The Last Of Us One Night Live performance but the secret epilogue wasn’t broadcasted as it was a treat just for those in attendance.
As for what the scene showed, Neil Druckmann confirmed on Twitter back in 2014 that it took place only a few weeks after the original game’s ending.
According to a Venture Beat post, the scene showed Joel trying to talk to a distant Ellie. He supposedly told her about his patrol duties and how Tommy was trying to get him to marry a funny girl named Esther.
Ellie apparently tried to get Joel to leave, but then he got out his acoustic guitar and sung Future Days by Pearl Jam.
The song supposedly had Joel singing “If I were to ever lose you, I’d surely lose myself,” and the pair reportedly warmed up to each other with Joel gifting Ellie the guitar.
All of the above details come courtesy of Venture Beat and some corrections posted by Neil Druckmann on Twitter, but the secret epilogue can’t be watched so some details may be incorrect.
However, the above overview does largely line-up with a copywrite of a NeoGaf forum courtesy of Polygon with corrections made.
Is the secret epilogue in The Last Of Us Part 2?
It’s possible that the secret epilogue for the original game could be in The Last Of Us Part 2.
While Naughty Dog has said nothing about the secret epilogue being in the sequel, The Last Of Us Part 2’s story trailer does briefly show Joel strumming a guitar with a younger Ellie fondly watching.
It’s possible that this is the One Night Live performance’s exclusive scene in action in-game as Ellie and Joel both look the right age.
As for the scene itself, it does show the fondness Ellie still has for Joel despite them becoming distant following the original game’s concluding events.
