Celtic boss Neil Lennon has told The Scottish Sun that he is hoping to keep hold of striker Odsonne Edouard this summer amid links to a host of Premier League clubs.
Edouard was simply sensational this season. The Frenchman has smashed 27 goals and 19 assists this season, emerging as one of the top young attackers in Europe.
Just like compatriot Moussa Dembele before him, Edouard could make a huge move. Dembele joined Lyon in August 2018, and Edouard could follow this summer.
Premier League clubs are being linked regularly. Just this morning, The Sunday Times claimed that Tottenham are very keen on signing Edouard.
They allegedly see Edouard as competition or a replacement for Harry Kane, but they’re far from alone in the race for his signature.
Arsenal are leading the race according to The Express, whilst the Daily Star suggest that Steve Bruce has made Edouard his top target if he keeps his job in the event of a takeover.
Celtic will hope to keep Edouard, or at least bring in huge money. Now, boss Lennon has commented on his star striker’s future.
Lennon thinks the rumours are ‘inevitable’, but feels Celtic are in a strong position to keep him. He even thinks going for a 10th league title in a row next season could tempt him into snubbing interest and staying put.
“It is inevitable there will be speculation surrounding Odsonne because of the player and talent he is,” said Lennon. “He hasn’t said anything to me about wanting to go. Whether that changes over the next while, we don’t know. But we have him on a really good contract and we are in a strong position to rebuff any interest in him.”
“We don’t want to sell him. We are happy with him and he seems quite happy here. We are going for ten in a row and that might be a big motivating factor for him to stay,” he added.
