Sony loyalists were treated yesterday to a State Of Play broadcast for The Last Of Us Part  2. This showing has resulted in plenty of memes and quips about the appearance of a PlayStation Vita, but its cliffhanger ending has also resulted in fans asking who the bloody hell is Nora. Regardless of who she is, her appearance lends credence to the belief that the huge spoilers didn’t leak the entire game’s plot as not once was a Nora ever mentioned before yesterday’s showcase.

The Last Of Us Part 2 comes out on June 19th which means that PlayStation 4 gamers no longer have a gargantuan wait ahead of them. Even with all the spoilers and supposed controversy about its uber violence and “politically-driven themes,” the Naughty Dog sequel firmly remains one of the most anticipated games of 2020 and it appears poised to live up to the hype.

Again, there isn’t a huge wait left until it finally comes out, but yesterday’s State Of Play showing has desperate fans looking for anything relating to Nora.

The Last Of Us Part 2 State Of Play

You can re-watch The Last Of Us Part 2’s State Of Play showing on PlayStation’s YouTube channel.

The State Of Play episode lasts 24-minutes and it showcases plenty of gameplay for The Last Of Us Part 2.

Most of the gameplay shows already seen footage from previous gameplay demos such as E3 2018, but it also shows at least eight-minutes of never-before-seen footage.

As for the gameplay itself, it all looks remarkably polished. It’s still familiar for those who played the 2013 original, but it has been greatly elaborated on with a bunch of new mechanics.

Ellie can crawl along the ground to hide underneath vehicles and in tall grass, there’s a dodge mechanic to help avoid damage, and there’s also a boat that will help you traverse areas that are flooded.

While the inclusion of a boat is neat, know that Ellie can actually swim this time around. She no longer needs Joel to find a convenient plank for her to stand on.

All of the gamplay for traversal and combat appears incredibly polished and impressive, but one of the major talking points from the broadcast – besides the PS Vita – is the mystery surrounding Nora.

Who is Nora in The Last Of Us Part 2?

Nora appears to be an entirely new character in The Last Of Us Part 2.

However, while seemingly a new face, Nora and Ellie also appear to have unresolved issues which is largely why there’s so much speculation surrounding her identity.

Ellie and this mysterious character appear to have a past as the State Of Play broadcast ends with Ellie saying “yeah, you remember me”.

No one officially knows who Nora is and she hasn’t appeared in any other marketing material, but one guess floating around certain areas of the web is that she’s Riley from the Left Behind DLC.

Riley was bitten at the end of Left Behind and was said to be dead throughout The Last Of Us, but we didn’t visually see her change into a clicker or die hence the speculation.

Another suggestion that has been found is that Nora is related to Marlene who Joel killed at the end of The Last Of Us.

The speculation about her being Riley doesn’t add-up thanks to the ending of Left Behind, nor does the familial relationship with Marlene as the Firefly leader was never shown having a daughter or sister.

Granted, Nathan Drake never made any mention of having a brother before Uncharted 4, so anything is possible.

It’s also unclear whether Nora is a part of the new Washington Liberation Front or the Fireflies (you can most probably rule out the religious zealots known as the Seraphites).

At the end of the day, no one knows who Nora is which adds another element of intrigue to the game especially with her not having been mentioned in any of the spoilers that were previously leaked.

While the speculation is all interesting and exciting, the good news is that we don’t have a long wait left to find out as the sequel releases on June 19th.
