Leicester City are keen to sign Kike Saverio from Barcelona with his Camp Nou contract due to expire at the end of June, according to Sport.

Prepare for a nasty case of déjà vu Barca fans.

A decade ago, the Kings of Catalonia conquered Europe with a squad made up almost entirely of players who had risen through the ranks at the feted La Masia academy. These days, however, things have changed quite substantially – and not for the better.

From Xavi Simons to Marc Jurado, Juan Larios to Pablo Moreno, it seems that barely a day goes by without one of the most exciting young talents in Barcelona’s ranks being linked with a move away from the La Liga champions.

With Saverio due to become a free agent in a matter of weeks, there is a growing fear that he too could slip through the net.

Sport claims that Barca are desperate to keep hold of the Italy-born Ecuadorian but they are fighting a losing battle with Leicester and Borussia Dortmund circling. Saverio has produced five goals and three assists for the club’s B team this season.

Given that Brendan Rodgers has a fine track record when it comes to honing the talents of promising youngsters, including Philippe Coutinho, Odsonne Edouard, Raheem Sterling, James Maddison and more, who could blame Saverio for wondering if the grass is greener elsewhere?
