Betaal arrived on Netflix on May 24th and features a host of Indian acting talent that many will not have seen before including the Manjiri Pupala.

As a US-based streaming service, Netflix is usually best known for its big-budget series such as Stranger Things and The Witcher.

In recent years, however, we’ve seen more and more diverse content appear on the streaming service.

From docuseries and reality TV to Oscar-winning films and international TV series, there’s never a shortage of something to watch.

Newly released Indian series Betaal falls into the latter of those four categories and introduces viewers to a host of acting talent that many won’t have come across before.

One such member of the cast is Manjiri Pupala but just what do we know about this up and coming actress?

Betaal released worldwide on Netflix on May 24th, 2020.

The Indian series, which is produced by Blumhouse (the company behind Get Out), tells the story of a remote Indian village in the shadow of the supposedly haunted Betaal Mountain.

The village is beset by a horrifying battle as an army of 19th-century British redcoats reanimate as zombies and wreak havoc on a squad of modern-day troops sent to protect the village.


Introducing Manjiri Pupala as Puniya

  • Taking on the role of villager Puniya is Indian actress Manjiri Pupala.

For many watching on Netflix, this will be the first time they’ve come across Pupala who has worked as a multilingual theatre actress in Mumbai for more than a decade according to Ciniblitz.

It is understood that Manjiri was born on November 9th but the year of her birth and ultimately her age remain unknown.

Away from acting, Manjiri is also highly active on social media, particularly Instagram, where she boasts an impressive 9,800 followers at the time of writing.

Manjiri Pupala: Films and TV

According to IMDb, Manjiri’s acting debut came in the 2015 Indian comedy-drama, TVF Pitchers.

Since then, she has gone on to appear in a total of nine acting roles, the most prominent including the TV series Ishqbaaaz, Grahan as well as the 2018 film Party.

On top of that, she even has a writing credit to her name for work on the 2016 film, Ribbon.

After a starring role in Netflix’s latest international series, we’re sure it won’t be long before Manjiri Pupala is back on our screens.
