According to Sky Sports, Arsenal may part ways with defender David Luiz less than a year since he arrived from Chelsea.

Arsenal signed Luiz from Chelsea back in August, beating the deadline to bring the Brazilian across London in a shock move.

It was then claimed that Luiz signed a two-year deal. Now, it’s stated that Luiz actually signed a one-year deal with the option of a second year.

So far, talks haven’t been held about extending that option. With Arsenal looking to cut costs, the experienced centre back could be sacrificied.

Still, the report notes that Mikel Arteta is ‘desperate’ to keep Luiz, and so is Arsenal technical director Edu, meaning Luiz could still end up staying.

No talks have been held though, and there are no negotiations planned either. Luiz wants to remain at Arsenal, but he now faces an anxious wait for talks to start.

Arsenal fans have been taking to Twitter to react, with some believing that letting Luiz go would be ‘madness’ and a ‘very stupid move’.

Some think it would be a huge surprise to see Luiz go, branding it a ‘disaster’ and a sign of Arsenal’s financial issues if he’s allowed to leave the club having impressed this season.
