Mundo Deportivo claim that Newcastle United have started talks with Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho and his representatives over a move this summer.
The Magpies have been linked with plenty of of top players ahead of their much-anticipated takeover. Coutinho has been at the forefront of those rumours and there is a good chance of a move materialising.
Mauricio Pochettino and Rafa Benitez are the two leading candidates for the Newcastle job and the report claims that both would love to have Coutinho playing for them.
The Brazilian is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, but the German champions have confirmed that they will not exercise their option to buy him permanently this summer.
Barcelona are looking to offload him and are seeking a fee of about £80 million for their club-record signing. (Mundo Deportivo)
Coutinho was a star in the Premier League with Liverpool but he hasn’t quite been the same in Spain.
It will be interesting to see if he can replicate his old self if he returns to the Premier League. He will certainly be the star at Newcastle should he agree to join them, but there are other clubs lurking as well.
The report says that it is Mikel Arteta’s dream to sign him for Arsenal while Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are said to be interested.
However, the Magpies are reportedly leading the race and signing him would bring a wave of excitement around St. James’ Park ahead of the start of their new era.
