Liverpool have contacted Thomas Meunier to enquire about whether the Paris Saint-Germain defender would be interested in a move to Anfield, according to Le10 Sport.
Barely a day goes by these days without the 2019 European champions being linked to perhaps the hottest forward in world football.
But, while a deal to bring Kylian Mbappe to Merseyside feels like little more than a pipe dream on the shifting sands of modern times, the prospect of a different PSG star arriving to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s squad feels far more likely.
Le10 Sport claims that the runaway Premier League leaders have made contact with the 40-capped Belgian international, offering him the chance to link up with compatriot Divock Origi in England’s north west.
A deal for Mbappe would make the £75 million spent on Virgil van Dijk look like pocket change but Meunier, with his contract due to expire in July, could be on his way to Liverpool for absolutely nothing.
The experienced defender has won nine trophies since moving to Paris in 2016, including three Ligue 1 titles. Such an impressive CV could make him a potentially inspired addition to a Liverpool side looking to establish themselves as the dominant force of English and European football.
But, after four years in and out of the PSG XI, it remains to be seen how Meunier would feel providing back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield.
