According to BILD, Borussia Dortmund have joined the race for Freiburg talent Robin Koch – and they want him to replace Manuel Akanji.
Dortmund’s title hopes appear to be over for another year, and they may now turn their attention to mounting another push next season.
It’s believed that Dortmund – who could yet part ways with boss Lucien Favre – are now looking to sign Freiburg defender Koch.
The report claims that Freiburg want €10million (£9million) for Koch. With just one year left on his deal, Freiburg are likely to cash in before he leaves for free.
RB Leipzig want the 23-year-old too, but Dortmund are preparing for life after Akanji. They’ve picked out Koch as his potential successor, and he would rather stay in Germany than move on to Benfica or Napoli.
Akanji looks set to move on this summer. Fussball Transfers recently reported that Arsenal want to sign the Swiss international, with a €30million (£27million) deal possible.
This interest in Koch could pave the way for Akanji to join the Gunners, but it may be terrible news for the likes of Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
The Daily Star recently reported that all three clubs have been scouting Koch this season, in the hope of luring the German talent to the Premier League.
It now looks like Dortmund could swoop in and ruin their plans, all whilst boosting Arsenal’s hopes of signing Akanji – and that would be the worst of both worlds for Tottenham.
