Arsenal should look to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye this summer after reports claimed he could be set for a swift exit from the French capital.
Gueye joined PSG from Everton last summer in a £30 million deal.
The 30-year-old made 28 starts for PSG prior to the Covi-19 suspension. However, despite largely being a regular, Gueye could be sold this summer.
According to Le10sport, PSG are keen on Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Gueye has been listed as a potential sale to help facilitate a deal.
The Senegal international is a holding midfielder with an abundance of energy and ability. He is exactly the type of player Arsenal have lacked for years.
The Gunners used to physically dominate their opponents during Arsene Wenger’s finest years. But since their last title win, they have become soft.
Under Unai Emery, Arsenal had little structure and a serious lack of fight.
Last season saw Arsenal ship 51 goals in the Premier League, 28 more than winners Manchester City.
This term, they’ve conceded 36 in 28 games. Nine more than Sheffield United.
Midfielders such as Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Dani Ceballos lack discipline. They may have quality on the ball, but Arsenal suffer out of possession.
Gueye is very much in the mould of N’Golo Kante. A midfielder who can cover the spaces, track runners and provide the necessary shield in-front of the defence.
In 19 Ligue 1 starts, he averages 3.3 tackles per game (whoscored).
At 30, he has plenty of experience and is approaching his prime. Mikel Arteta has plenty of young talent at his disposal, and an older head like Gueye would be ideal to aid their development.
