According to 20 Minutes, Rangers target Pedro Chirivella is poised to undergo a medical with Nantes ahead of joining the club from Liverpool.
It’s claimed that Nantes are trying to get business done early. Brest defender Jean-Charles Castelletto allegedly underwent medical tests on Monday ahead of his move to Nantes.
The report adds that Chirivella is expected to complete his medical on Wednesday too. Both players are expected at Nantes’ headquarters, called ‘La Joneliere’.
It’s something of a surprise to hear of players being expected for medicals this week. The global pandemic is ongoing, and travel remains an issue for many, but this French newspaper seems pretty confident about the plans for the week at Nantes.
This news would seemingly be a blow to both Rangers and Liverpool. Goal reported earlier this month that Rangers were hoping to sign Chirivella on a free transfer.
His deal at Liverpool expires this summer, and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is believed to have been given positive repots about the Spaniard, hence his interest.
Additionally, that report noted that Liverpool had offered Chirivella a new five-year deal. That was seemingly their last-ditch attempt to try and convince him to stay, but it looks to have failed.
The 23-year-old has impressed in cup games this season, and has now decided to go out and play first-team football. Sadly for Rangers, he won’t be heading to Ibrox if this report is correct.
